Responsible Gambling

At Sunbet Namibia, we take responsible gambling very seriously. Gambling, when done in moderation and within a strict budget, can be an enjoyable and exciting activity. We strongly encourage all our customers to familiarize themselves with responsible gambling practices, which serve as a guide to becoming responsible players.

In support of the Gambling Authorities Programme, we have provided a guide with helpful tips and strategies to help ensure that gambling remains a fun and safe experience. Below are key safe gambling tips and guidance on how to become a responsible player. It is essential to understand what it means to be a responsible gambler and the steps to take if you or someone close to you develops a gambling problem.

WHO CAN HAVE A GAMBLING PROBLEM?

Anyone can experience a gambling problem. Contrary to the myths that gambling problems only affects certain type of people, anyone can be affected. Similar to alcohol and cigarettes, gambling can become addictive, and it is important to seek professional help if you believe you have a gambling problem.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST IN THE EVENT THAT I NEED HELP?

If you need assistance, you can call the toll-free helpline at 19777. Should you require outpatient treatment from one of the Gambling Authorities counsellors, all costs will be covered by the Gambling Authority. Visit the Gambling Authorities website by clicking here for further information.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A RESPONSIBLE GAMBLER?

Being a responsible gambler means taking regular breaks, avoiding gambling as a source of income, only gambling with money you can afford to lose, and setting personal limits for both time and money. Find balance, set limits, enjoy your experience, and play responsibly. It is not embarrassing or shameful to seek help for a gambling problem. Anyone can be affected, and it is your responsibility to take the necessary steps if you recognize that you have a gambling problem. If you are struggling, don't hesitate to contact the Gambling Authorities toll free helpline at 19777.

TIPS FOR RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING

  • Surround yourself with other responsible gamblers.
  • Be aware of myths that might lead you to believe that it is safe to continue gambling after exceeding your limits.
  • Measure the success of your gambling session by how much fun you had, not by how much money you won or lost.
  • Take regular breaks between gaming sessions.
  • Set and stick to a specific budget for daily, weekly, or monthly gambling.
  • Only gamble with money you can afford to lose and consider any losses as the cost of entertainment.
  • Gamble for entertainment purposes only.
  • Have a game plan and educate yourself on the signs of problem gambling.
  • Seek help if you find yourself consistently exceeding your time or money limits.

At Sunbet Namibia, we are committed to promoting responsible gaming and preventing problem gambling. If you feel the need to exclude yourself from gambling, we offer several self-exclusion options. If you wish to self-exclude, please contact support@sunbet.co.bw or visit the Gambling Authorities website by clicking here.

The self-exclusion options available include:

  • Temporary Suspension: Your account will be suspended for at least 1 month.
  • Self-Exclusion: Your account will be suspended for a minimum period of 6 months.
  • Permanent Self-Exclusion: Your account will be permanently closed.

If a permanent self-exclusion request is made, any remaining funds in your account will be returned to you, and the account will be closed. The account can only be re-opened once the upliftment or revocation process, as outlined by the Namibia Gambling Authority, has been followed. The procedure involves receiving an email confirming that your account has been closed. However, it remains your responsibility to ensure and confirm that your account has been closed as requested.
